BRISBANE, April 6 AAP - Police could upgrade a charge against a 36-year-old man after
the victim of an assault in Brisbane died in hospital earlier today.
A 52-year-old man from the north-west Brisbane suburb of Everton Park was bashed while
walking with a female companion through the Brookside Shopping Centre carpark at nearby
Mitchelton shortly before midnight (AEST) last night, police said.
The man died at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital this afternoon after being kept
on life support.
He and the 47-year-old woman were confronted by a group of men, one of whom allegedly
assaulted the man, punching him and leaving him in a critical condition with head injuries.
The woman suffered facial injuries and received treatment but was not admitted to hospital.
A 37-year-old Everton Hills man is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow
charged with grievous bodily harm.
Police said the charge may be upgraded once a police investigation is completed and
a post mortem examination of the victim has been completed.
