Fed: Qantas to work closely with gov't on sky marshal program

Qantas says it will continue to work closely with the federal government on the sky
marshal program.

The commitment signals the possibility that security officers could be present on flights
to the US if an agreement is reached between the two governments.

The US today ordered foreign airlines to place armed marshals on selected flights to
and from the US in a bid to boost security and thwart attacks.

A Qantas spokeswoman says the federal government's already flagged that it wants to
expand the international sky marshal program.

She says Qantas will continue to work closely with government on aviation security,
including the program.

Qantas reached an agreement with the federal government for sky marshals to be present
on flights to Singapore on Friday.

The airline introduced a domestic sky marshal program in December 2001.
